In Between autonomy

In Between Autonomy investigates the semantics of road signage. Looking at hundreds of signs from around the world, this study lays out the abstract properties of signage in order to produce a universal transit syntax. This new type of signage would continue to serve manually operated vehicles but also begin to address autonomous (non-human) subjectivities which are new to navigating human transit infrastructure. This language would allow humans and non-humans to negotiate space in a transitional moment between partial and full road autonomy.
